In 2006, Government promulgated the Multi-Facility Economic Zones (MFEZ) policy in Zambia as a way to stimulate industrial development. MFEZs are specific geographic areas with the highest quality physical and social infrastructure and efficient Government licensing procedures that will attract investment into the manufacturing sector. Chembe District is strategically located at the point where it connects Zambia’s Northern and Southern regions and also sits at the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The Chembe Multi-facility Economic Zone (CMFEZ) will be able to produce for both the Copperbelt Province which is a predominantly mining area and for export to the nearby Haut Katanga Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), another mining area, as well as other countries on the West Coast of Africa. Products from Chembe can also be easily exported to East Africa and the Northern part of the continent through the Northern corridor. Investors in the Zone are entitled to wide-ranging fiscal incentives provided by the Government to encourage investment in manufacturing within the Zone.Read Less
