Personal Profile
I am a businessman looking for funding, to convert my current property into student accommodation, as well as to purchase a concrete plant, therefore creating jobs.
Company Profile
SB Business Properties was established in 2017 with the sole purpose of providing student accommodation in areas within the provinces identified above. SA has experienced many student protests, which started in October 2015 due to high fees in the higher education sector. As an alma mater at one of the Tshwane South/North TVET Colleges, I have seen and experienced the struggles students who are academically gifted go through. Some are unable to complete their studies due to the pressures that comes with living in student residences. More so, the students who come from poor backgrounds, whose households rely on social grants, and some of them headed by children due to poverty. This project aim to assist in alleviating poverty in our country, and the after effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, especially in black communities. The communities’ profiling was mostly done in areas earmarked for accommodation and will be used as a benchmark to accept students at these residences. Students will be selected according to e.g. families with a certain amount of combined household income, background check/disadvantage and those who are doing well academically. SB Properties supports community development, envisage uplifting and being involved in community engagements and aimed at relieving the financial pressures that comes with being a student. Institutions, with which their students will benefit from, support this project and their intended services. SB Properties is an accredited sBux merchant, a payment system used by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and students will be charged according to NSFAS rates. Furthermore, SB Properties is in discussions with local transport organisations, i.e. those in the same vicinity with the targeted institutions, to find the best solution of transporting students during and after lectures. The idea is to make sure that students who study until late do not struggle to get home and arrive safely to their residences. More than anything, it is the company’s desire to ensure students live in a safe and secured environment. This project will also open job opportunities to the unemployed, as it will need the services of caretakers/house parents, cleaners, landscapers/gardeners, chefs etc. at each of the residences. Staff responsible for the implementation (administration) of this project will be employed on contract basis, depending on the availability of funds. First priority will be given to graduate students from the same institutions these accommodations are meant for, as a way of ploughing back into the communities and will form part of their internships. Again, the criteria will be more or less the same used in identifying students who are accommodated in these residences. They will however, be assisted by experienced recruits. It is our wish to expand our services to other TVET College Campuses e.g. Rustenburg and Mogwase, as it currently covers all Tshwane North and South campuses. SB Business Properties has made major strides in including Tshwane University of Technology, and has applied for accreditation at the institution.
