Sanjeev Anand (Group Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director) Sanjeev, a seasoned and experienced banker has recently been reappointed as Group Managing Director for Retail and Commercial Banking at Atlas Mara Limited and Group Chief Executive Officer for ABC Holdings Limited in March 2019. Sanjeev is the Honorary Director Africa for BRICS Chambers of Commerce and Industry. He previously held the same positions from July 2017 to October 2018, but left for a brief sabbatical before re-joining the Group. As Group CEO, all the operating subsidiaries of BancABC in Botswana, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe, as well as Banque Populaire du Rwanda Ltd (BPR), report to him. Sanjeev’s prior appointment was as Managing Director of BPR, part of Atlas Mara since January 2016. BPR was formed by the merger of BRD-Commercial Rwanda with BPR, where the majority shareholder is Atlas Mara and Arise is the largest minority shareholder. His record before and with Atlas Mara Limited speaks volumes to his qualifications and his character. Before joining BPR, Sanjeev Anand was Managing Director of I&M Bank Rwanda Limited (previously Banque Commerciale du Rwanda - BCR). During this period, he managed the transition of ownership of the bank from Actis to the I&M consortium, comprising I&M Bank, DEG and PROPARCO. Sanjeev has enjoyed a long and prosperous career spanning 25 years with Citibank, since 1982, where he held a number of senior assignments across Asia, Europe, America and Africa. Some of the key positions he held during this period were as CEO of Citibank in Zambia and Uganda and Executive Director of Citibank Nigeria. In addition, he remained an industry specialist in airlines and aerospace and senior credit officer. Sanjeev has worked in several countries across Asia, Africa and Europe. On the corporate side, Sanjeev is currently the deputy Chairman of Rwanda Sovereign Fund. He was the immediate past Chairman of Rwanda Bankers Association and President of the Rwanda Leasing Association and was also a member of the Investment Committee of Access to Finance.
