Rear Admiral Venkat Shankar (Retd) worked as a defence senior officer in the Indian Navy for 38 years before moving on to the corporate sector in 2014 on superannuation. He joined Maamba Collieries Limited as Chief Executive Officer in October 2014 and remains in the same position till date.
He is a post graduate in Business Administration & International Relations. The current assignment is his second assignment in Sub-Saharan Africa, having being posted in South Africa from 2000 – 2003 as a diplomat in the High Commission of India, Pretoria.
He is an avid golfer, plays tennis and likes to remain fit.
