I am the Executive Manager at the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC) in the Eastern Cape province. The ECDC is an entity of the provincial government that was established through and act of parliament. Its main responsibilities is to finance SMMEs, provide business support to SMMEs and also promote trade and investment opportunities in the province of the Eastern Cape. The ECDC works very closely with the 2 Special Economic Zones, Investors, Business Chamber and other spheres of government.
I hold a Masters degree in Economic Policy from the University of Stellenbosch with experience in economic development, project management, research and policy development. I have over 20 years working experience in economic development, having worked in the Department of Trade and Industry for many years. I currently do a lot of travelling, identifying investors and investments for the province, assist in packaging projects, present them for funding and making sure they are executed well. These projects are meant to grow the economy of our province, create jobs, enhance skills and ultimately reduce poverty.
The opportunity to attend the regional conclave is big for a province like our own. The networking platform will help with identifying investors and trading opportunities.
The ECDC is a state owned entity whose main responsibility, as stated earlier, is to finance and support SMMEs in the province. Its other mandate is to promote trade and investment into the province of the Eastern Cape
